Goodwood Revival (7 Sept 2003)

As we drove towards Goodwood, we saw the occasional classic sports car heading in the same direction, then more and more as we neared the track until almost all of the cars on the road were from the 50's and 60's, making us feel conspicuously modern in our '5!

The Goodwood Revival is an annual weekend of racing from yesteryear - the most beautiful and exotic cars and bikes from the 1950's and 1960's are racing all weekend, and you can drool over them between fixtures in the paddock area. A couple of times during the day a display of Spitfires and Kitty Hawks thunder low overhead - an event not to be missed. The stalls sell period style food, clothing and memorabilia, and the staff and most of the spectators dress in period style - RAF pilots with handlebar moustaches abound!

The atmosphere is amazing - it really transports you back to a different era, and the noise of the cars howling around the track is unbelievable. Despite many of the cars being rare and priceless, they really don't hold back, with top drivers (many of them celebrities) battling tooth and nail to win their events, and the crowd all ooh-ing and ah-ing as the many exciting moments and beautifully controlled tail-slides occur, culminating with a terribly English clap for those jolly nice driver chappies at the end of each race.

We managed to meet up with 3 other club members to say hi, and had an absolutely fabulous day out - can't wait for next year…hope to see more of you there next time! Don't forget your picnic hampers.
