Festive Drive (2 Jan 2005)

We left our house at New Malden to join some new and recognised faces at Fleet Services and were also introduced to Vanessa (Chairman) and John who were joining us on Robert's 'trip'.

The Festive Drive started off with a few New Year resolutions being broken with a full fat breakfast (no names!).

Twelve gleaming cars set off in the bright January sunshine, with the route instructions resembling an A level algebra paper - but nevertheless very descriptive. I would like to point out at this stage that my car was the only one with a hardtop on, so well done to all of you bravehearts!

We kept a good, safe convoy throughout, with Robert leading the way and the California (apparently now where we belong on the road) in last position. [Editor’s note: it’s much easier to see the end of the convoy when there’s a bright car there!] We took in all the beautiful country scenery and saw plenty of wildlife. We even spotted some geese and turkeys that somehow escaped Christmas!!!!! Robert seemed a little confused when we passed a sign reading 'chicks on road' as he slowed down, apparently looking for the long legged version!!!!!

We were warned about this twisty, single track road at Sydmonton being muddy, not good for Mazdas with low skirts, especially as detours up wet grassy banks were made to avoid oncoming vehicles. So of course, no more gleaming cars!!!!!!

After approx 2 hours we arrived at our lunch venue (the Four Points Inn, Haw Lane, Aldworth on the B4009) at which efficient Rob had booked a table for 16, only he had forgotten to count himself - making 17. An excellent meal at the end of an excellent drive - no complaints (although Di’s profiteroles lacked chocolate!).

Thank you Robert - Happy New Year to one and all, and in true panto fashion - 'Robert where is the California?'

IT'S BEHIND YOU !!!!!!!
